A Clearwater city spokesman says it will know next week whether Criss Angel will broadcast an attempt to escape from the implosion of the Spyglass Resort.
TAMPA - Illusionist Criss Angel likely will show off his skills during the implosion of a Clearwater Beach hotel this month, a Clearwater spokesman said today. If all goes as planned, Angel will be in the Spyglass Resort as the demolition countdown begins, and he will make his way to a helicopter on the roof before the implosion occurs, said Doug Matthews, a city of Clearwater spokesman.
Matthews said he will know for sure next week whether Angel will come to the hotel to perform. f Angel performs, the event will be broadcast live on A&E from 10 to 11 p.m. on July 30.
Angel's representatives and Clearwater officials met today to discuss the plan. Angel's publicist couldn't be reached today.
Matthews said he wasn't sure how what methods Angel would use to survive the stunt.
"That's the part that nobody knows," he said. "That's the magic." The nine-story hotel has been vacant for years, Matthews said.
"It has fallen into very bad disrepair," he said. "It has numerous code issues, and from a city perspective, we were very glad to see it go down. Whether it's on live TV, whether it's an implosion, whether it's a wrecking ball."
Angel is the creator, executive producer and director of "Criss Angel MINDFREAK" on A&E and has been on several television specials, according to his Web site.

I just got back from my walk with my little man when a though occured to me....Martin Luthur King Jr. speech about Freedom. It seems in this chaotic world, nothing is allowed without consequences. You walk down the street and look at a person the wrong way and they start to have ill feelings for you. You change your style of clothing and dye your hair black and all of a sudden you are a goth and shouldn't be taken seriously. It just drives me mad on how much freedom is lost everyday. Even the freedom of speech is outlawed. I mean seriously, read that speech by Martin Luthur King Jr and you will find out exactly what I'm talking about. He fought for freedom of everything. He voiced his opinions regardless of knowing that it would get people mad at him. He decided that in no way, was someone going to tie him down and tell him how to live his life and when it was appropriate to say certain things. The speech is entitled, I had a dream. And true enough he did. His dream was that no matter who you are, what race you are, what colour your skin was, we could all get along and be treated fairly. If I was there at that rally when Mr. King said that speech I would have stood up and clapped as loudly as I could. He was a smart man. But becareful people, if you have an opinion and decide to voice it or write it, someone may be standing behind you ready to stab you in the back. On one last note, I've learned that money is the root of all evil....money creates egos and egos create power and power will destroy us all as we don't know how to use it properly. Sorry this isn't going to be a happy go lucky entry but I have to vent here. I just got a letter from my landlord yesterday saying our rent was going up....ok, no biggie. Then today he sends us another letter saying that our apartment building is being made into condos and if we want to stay we have to take out a mortgage and buy the place from him. Nice huh? Heres the kicker, Kelvin and I are broke....flat broke. We can't afford to make any kind of offers on this trash hole so we are out very soon. Finding a place here in Orangeville is like asking a rock to move. Its damn near impossible. The thing that is pissing me off the most is that the landlord already makes close to $30,000 a month here with 30 apartments yet he wants to make the poor, poorer. Fuck I hate him for that. Our only option now is to move back to Kelvins parents house inwhich I don't want to cause they have already raised their family and now its time for them to have a life of their own. Why are rich people so greedy? Like a million dollars a year isn't good enough for them? Seriously, I'm so stressed right now that I'm just about on the edge of insanity. I can't take much more stress. The only thought that is keeping me from insanity is my beautiful baby boy, Brendan. He is the light of my eye and somehow in his only 2 months of life has made me very happy. He tends to smile just when I need one. Let me say it one more time....I'm so pissed about this and what the fuck is wrong with rich people? Why are they so fucking inconsiderate of others? Now don't get me wrong, not all rich people are miserable, just most of them. I gotta go Mindfreaks, I'm really starting to say some nasty things.... Keep it real YOU MINDFREAKS! Ok, I'm a Canadian fan of Criss's and have been for quite some time. I've enjoyed magic since I was little and Have always wondered the mystery behind it. I've learned "tricks" from Criss's DVDs and from my own mentor Brent Mackie. Every weekend I would look forward to David Copperfields show on the TV just to see what was next to come. He amazed me when he disappeared Disneys Castle.
I love making new friends and learning about other cultures. However, things I have no patience for is fake people. You know who you are so please don't try to befriend me if your only intent is to harm me or any of my close friends. Other than that, I'm very approachable and a good listener.
